“Top” 這小字本身是簡單地不得了，大家都知道它是「頂部」或「頂尖」的意思。
不過在片語裡面如果就直接就是這個意思的話，那筆者還用混嗎?! ˊ_>ˋ|||
通常片語所表達的意思，是從字面上的意義所延伸出來的含意~

“Work takes up a large amount of time for many Americans. On top of that,
people also have to deal with their daily commutes. It all adds up.”
(a large amount of = 大量的 / deal with = 處理 / daily =每日的 / commute =通勤)
有一點fu了嗎? “on top of that”似乎是在解釋這兩句話之間的關聯?
而且從第二句的 “also” 可發現，好像是在針對第一句做個補充說明? 沒錯!
On top of that 其實就是 「除此之外」的意思，在那件事物之上，還有另一件事情呢!
比如說，你可能很想對另一半抱怨，老子(老娘)已經為你做了很多了!

2號好用: To top it (all) off
“To top it off” 這個片語，實際上跟前一個片語有點類似，也是有「除此之外」的意思，
只不過後面接的事物會比前面的事物程度更加強烈，不是更好，就是更壞，
清楚翻譯的話，就是「更棒的是…」或「更糟的是…」的意思。
比如說我要來抱怨一件事情，形容負面的狀況:
“The Halloween party I went to this year, nobody dressed up, the food was terrible,
and just to top it all off, it was freaking pricy!”
「我今年去的萬聖派對不但沒甚麼人扮裝、東西難吃之外，更糟的是還貴得要命!」
就是有除了前面這些已經很糟糕的情況之外，還有更糟的是……….這樣的意思。
同時這個片語，也可以用來描述正面的、好的事情~
“I finally found a pretty good job opportunity! I have a nice boss, full of learning
opportunities, and to top it off, my colleague is such a super hot dude! That’s like a
dream come true, people!”

這個片語隱含的意義，其實跟字面上的就好連結許多了~
字面上意思是「超過頂部」，而片語的涵義，就是「太誇張了吧!」整個太超過囉~

比如說遇到一個購物狂女生……
“Lady, you’ve been shopping for 3 whole hours non-stop, and you already got
2 pairs of shoes, 4 dresses, and 3 purses! Don’t you think you’re a bit over the top?”
「這位小姐… 你已經逛了整整三小時沒停了，買了兩雙鞋、四件洋裝還有三個包包耶，妳不覺
